WORDS : LUCA CESCON

If you’re into hardcore, punk and crossover music, you’re surely aware of the amazing Californian’s underground scene state of grace. Bands like Gulch, Drain, Hands Of God, Jawstruck and Nudie Mag are completely changing this scene’s face from the core, delivering some of the best records ever released in recent times.

Tuning are another Bay Area band to fall in love with: coming from Oakland, this melodic hardcore outfit has already released some records, with the most recent being the eight-track release Defining The Purpose.

this band is here to show how to produce an amazing hardcore record that will bring together old and new fans of this genre

The band brings back some old-school tunes, with the right attitude to keep people moving under the stage. From With Honor melodies up to that Bane vocals approach and Go It Alone-inspired guitars riffs, this band is here to show how to produce an amazing hardcore record that will bring together old and new fans of this genre.

Emotionally charged, explosive, and deeply introspective, the band’s sophomore LP Defining the Purpose, was recorded in November 2019 with renowned producer Zack Ohren, and expands Tuning’s sound with an incredible, in-your-face arrangement and songwriting which asks the listener to consider living with intention and hope.

Tuning are showing their ability to play a sort of melodic hardcore revival

Despite not being one of the heaviest bands coming from the California’s brand new scene, Tuning are showing their ability to play a sort of melodic hardcore revival which will surely be appreciated from all the ‘90s style fans. Their new record- released on August 21st- is out now via Indecision Records (same label joined by Power Alone and Death By Stereo).
