Nirvana, a band that reigned in the 90s like no other, one that was truly a huge revolution within the music industry. That created an iconic movement and gave the sound of ‘grunge’ a real definition. The American rock band was one of the most significant parts of 90s rock music and the way it was produced. In Utero was released in 1993 and continues to be a popular release and one that many find themselves going back to.
In 1987 Nirvana formed and immediately many fell in love
Let’s be honest the 90s were a time for music of all kinds to thrive and the comments of ‘I wish it was the nineties again’ still continues to be said. In 1987 Nirvana formed and immediately many fell in love. With the gritty and compelling vocals from the man himself Kurt Cobain and the insane instrumentals that complemented Cobain’s vocals perfectly. Nirvana was a band that took the music world by storm, creating truly incredible and moving anthologies and having a sound like no other.
In Utero is an anthology that truly sparked up a lot of attention, one that showed just how incredibly talented Nirvana is. It sold a total of 15 million copies worldwide and since this creation was born it still lives up to being the greatest album of all time. Nirvana stole the hearts of many and when the heartbreaking news that Kurt Cobain had passed was a moment of utter devastation for many. The band consisted of Kurt, bassist Krist Novoselic and the final decision for a drummer was Dave Grohl in 1990.
In Utero was an anthology that had a personality, it let off that feeling of anger, it let the roar emotion flood through and it wasn’t afraid to be noisy and out there. It was and still is an album that truly made its mark in music history
One of the many hits that placed themselves on this collection was ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ from the get-go this song set its name in stone. One of the best songs from Nirvana, the eerie instrumentals the harsh plucks on the guitar strings as Cobain’s vocals begin to seep through with such a dulcet and compelling tone keeping the volume to a bare minimum. Then you’re instantly transported into the more heavy and chaotic sound they have to offer. A true highlight of this collection with an obscure music video, a killer instrumental and one hell of a vocal set from Cobain.
There was never a dull moment throughout In Utero the clashes of the instruments, the powerful drum beats and the electrifying riffs on the guitar. It has this sound that was one of them that immediately hooks you in, one that has a whole load of anger and emotion pouring through. Cobain has this way of creating lyrics that instantly grab the listeners, he tells his story through poignant lyrics and adds that brittle texture to his voice.
The talent Nirvana had is always reminisced even now and no one ever really falls out of love with their music. In Utero was an anthology that had a personality, it let off that feeling of anger, it let the roar emotion flood through and it wasn’t afraid to be noisy and out there. It was and still is an album that truly made its mark in music history. It’s one of them, where if you’re feeling stressed or upset about something you can lay down, put your headphones on and get lost and slowly feel a sense of relief as you listen.. It truly made an impact not on just the music industry but on every listener that tuned in.
Nirvana is one of them bands that will be remembered in years to come and to follow that will be this album. Even after 27 years, it still is a huge highlight for Nirvana’s career and one that fans immediately feel an instant connection with as soon as they hit play. They showed that it’s ok to be loud, a little weird and that it’s ok not to feel happy all the time. Teaching their listeners to embrace who they’re through their powerful movement.
