WORDS : JO COSGROVE
Raging Clue are rising stars in the Nottingham scene, and they’re still so early in their journey together. Forming in 2019, they’re determined to make waves and work hard; and as they work hard, they party even harder! Bonding over a shared passion for “punk, ska and beer”, the band have said they’ve received a lot of love and support from the local scene already. “There’s such a wealth of talent in Nottingham and everyone’s so genuinely friendly and supportive.”
Releasing it as their debut single for the world was a “good start” to putting across what their sound was to fans and the whole world
Even with other acts they’ve come to know and love from the scene, they have the highest of praise for. They give a special shout-out to Novocaine: “They are cooking up some serious storms. We can’t wait to grab a show with them, they are the perfect mix of punk and grunge.”
Outside of their scene, they have some favourites who they hope to someday share the stage with. From Zebrahead to Frank Turner, Blink-182 to Green Day, their ambitions are high but as much as they’d want to play with them, “we’d be even more excited to party with them.” And if there’s anything Raging Clue want you to know, it’s that they’re complete party animals.
The band want to be known as incredible partiers by their friends and their fans. They say it’s “part of who we are as a band and as friends”, and even played a part in the creation of their debut single!
‘Wildchild‘ was released earlier this year, and comes from the band’s belief that “band life is as much about the social aspect as it is the music”. That and the inner-workings of bassist Aaron Juska-Bowes.
“It’s Aaron’s fault that ‘Wildchild’ exists,” the band jokingly admit. “He’s got issues. It’s the same old story of some stereotypical bass player with low self esteem and intimacy issues.” Well, low self esteem and intimacy issues aside, ‘Wildchild’ was also the first song the trio ever wrote together! Releasing it as their debut single for the world was a “good start” to putting across what their sound was to fans and the whole world.
We are so excited to start travelling around the country and we’re definitely up for touring all over the world if the chance presents itselF
Despite the music world being shook to its core due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the guys are still aiming to get the EP out later this year. “We’re recording it a lot later in the year than we’d like after [COVID-19] hit us all hard but we’re really excited to get it out to everyone!”
The EP will consist of three tracks, according to the band: “One of which being way more deep and completely different to ‘Wildchild'”, claiming it will be inspired by Juska-Bowes, who is labelled the band’s “sad boy”.
Once the world is back to normal and the guys can go back to that “drunk, sweaty and social” punk rock environment, Raging Clue want to get back onstage! With the “amazing” support they receive when playing live, despite only performing twice as a band, they’re exciting about getting back out there! They even shared their dreams for future touring opportunities.
“We are so excited to start travelling around the country and we’re definitely up for touring all over the world if the chance presents itself.” The guys even shared some dream venues for these touring plans: “Our absolute dream venue to play would be Rock City & Rescue Rooms in Nottingham…Out of town venues like Manchester Ritz, Shepherd’s Bush, Camden Underworld, Ally Pally, Wembley one day too.”
The band are gearing up for a massive 2021, and have described 2020 as just “pres” to get them started: “We’ve got a whole load of songs, we’re excited about our second EP…We’ll probably try and play a couple of gigs at the end of the year if we’re allowed.”
There’s a lot in store for one of Nottinghman’s most exciting bands – stay tuned!
