Treading the line between fantasy and violence with abrasive yet smooth soundscapes, Yorkshire-made, Kent-based artist Angusraze drops gutsy new track ‘What Are We’ on June 12th via Painted Halo Records.
Sharing a sonic palette with the likes of Death Grips and Xiu Xiu, and with music elevated by its originality ; Angusraze will be remembered as the spawn of a new flesh-blood-and-wire generation who have defined their whole social milieu from the confines of their four walls.
Inspired by grime and drawing from the hidden philosophies of forward-thinking sci-fi films, ‘What Are We’ is an electro-tinged offering which is sleek, sophisticated and experimental in nature, finding a unique space in an album full of retro, gritty tracks.
‘Unlawful’ the explosive result of corruption and poisonous violence, and ‘What Are We’ as a precursor for this moment, as the still-conscious character starts to question the negative instances around them
The track follows previous releases – the hazy, synth-bass-infused ‘Unlawful’, was the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Foxmask, with hard-hitting, quasi-lullaby track ‘Green Hay’ following shortly afterwards. Both offerings – diverse in musicality and sonic imagery – were impressive snippets of a multimedia project consisting of several instalments, including the hotly anticipated album and an as-of-yet untitled film.
Speaking of the track, Angusraze commented :“It’s basically connected to ‘Unlawful’ in the sense that it revolves around the same character, with ‘Unlawful’ the explosive result of corruption and poisonous violence, and ‘What Are We’ as a precursor for this moment, as the still-conscious character starts to question the negative instances around them. Throughout the song, the vocal becomes more unhinged and somewhat spliced together to reflect the shift.”
With his gutsy but hypnotic creations, Angusraze is undeniably making a lasting impression. ‘What Are We’ drops on June 12th via via Painted Halo Records.
