Hertfordshire DIY punk duo with a quirky name and high aspirations.
In a time where everyone and their uncle seems to be in a band, it’s always good to see one with a memorable name. With that said, meet Hertfordshire/London DIY punkers Pet Library.
“THE DIY SCENE IS SO, SO IMPORTANT….”
The band released their debut LP Pity Party earlier this year, to considerably high praise. ‘The reaction to Pity Party was nuts,’ says drummer/joint-vocalist George Milner. ‘We’d played a bunch of tracks from it live already, but the reaction on release day was crazy. The most surreal thing has been people putting it on their Album of The Year lists. We’re really proud of it.’
As a DIY band, Pet Library (made of Milner and guitarist/vocalist Tim Andersson) firmly believe in the importance of the scene. ‘The DIY scene is incredibly important, both for the exposure of new talent, and just for making friends and creating a safe space at shows/within the community.’ However, there are distinct issues within the scene that the band also want to bring attention to. ‘Right now, it’s polluted with bands who are rinsing it, stepping on anybody who’s given a damn about them in the process. There are lots of emerging, incredible bands, and we hope these “wannabe rock stars” back off.’
The band are very optimistic for the year ahead. ‘We’re working on a very big project that we’ll be releasing this year. We’ll also be spending a lot more of time touring too. We have lots of cool people and opportunities surrounding us now and we’re going to make 2018 our year.’ We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
