ARTIST: SUICIDE SILENCE Sacred_World_Suicide_Silence

TITLE: SACRED WORDS (EP)

LABEL: NUCLEAR BLAST

RATING: 6/10

Sacred Words is nothing short of curious. As far as we can tell, the songs on this EP would be more suited to an extended edition of the previous album. After all the title track and subsequent live songs are all taken from said release. That said there must be a purpose, otherwise this would be a completely fruitless endeavour. Sacred Words is followed by live versions of Inherit The Crown, Cease To Exist and the title tracks itself along with a remix and instrumental. Inherit The Crown is a very direct reference to Eddie Hermida’s inheritance of the helm of Suicide Silence, and also possibly a message of ‘We hold the crown, we lead, others follow’.

Not in a narcissistic way however, could it be that SUICIDE SILENCE are using this as a way of displaying where they see themselves going as a band after You Can’t Stop Me. It could be possible that Sacred Words shows their trajectory and as such maybe this EP should be seen as an abridgement from the early Death Metal sound through what has become Deathcore as a genre and thus this could be a move to a refined and developed Deathcore than we’ve previously heard but should come to expect? Is the band’s style as you have known it thus far that may Cease To Exist or the genre as you have known it?
